What should I look for in a cheap laptop?

This comes down to personal preference really and what specs you require for what you want to do with your laptop.

You may want lots of storage, you may want a big or small screen or you might just want something with a long battery life, it’s all down to personal preference.

What about laptop screens?

This is what a lot of people get stuck on, what size screen is best for them. I’d always say it depends what you’re going to do with it, if you’re watching a lot or videos online then the bigger the better usually. If you’re looking to have something that you can store easily for travelling about then maybe consider something smaller.

Most laptops will be somewhere between 11 and 15 inches, although you can also go smaller or larger depending on what you want.

Laptop Screen size doesn’t just affect how big the laptop is but also affects the weight of the laptop as well as other things like connectivity, ports and other bits too.

It’s typical to find a cheap  laptop with a very basic and standard resolution of 1366×768 (HD) but you may find slightly higher, 1920×1080 (or Full HD) then you’ll be better off and receive more bang for your buck. We’d always recommend going for a matt finish over a standard gloss screen that reflects like a mirror when it’s in a brightly lit room or sunny as nobody wants that and makes the overall user experience very poor.

Do Laptops come with disc drives?

Modern laptops often don’t have the DVD/CD drive as it’s not on everyone’s wish list in 2021 but also to save money and weight. Remember to check if the laptop you’re looking at had one, failing that you  can still buy external DVD drives if you really want it.

If you’re not into laptops then you’ll probably not know what a processor is, to explain the processor is the life of the laptop and tends to determine how well it performs and how fast it operates. If you’re looking for very basic browsing or usage then go for something like an intel Pentium or similar.

If you’re looking to do a bit more than that then you need to look for an Intel Core processor or an AMD Ryzen as they tend to be the best for more than just browsing.

When it comes to Intel, go for a Core i5 processor if possible, if not then aim for an i3 as you don’t go far wrong.
